Alan . Raphael, J.D.

Prior to attending law school, Professor Raphael taught college history courses and lobbied at the Indiana General Assembly regarding criminal law and prison issues. While in law school, he was articles editor of the Indiana Law Review. Upon graduation, he served as law clerk to the Hon. Thomas E. Fairchild, chief judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and was in private practice. He joined the Loyola faculty in 1983. He has argued appeals of serious criminal convictions in federal and state courts and has supervised students working on criminal appeals briefs. He has represented clients on death row and has written about capital punishment and racial discrimination in jury selection. He serves as a contributing editor of the American Bar Association publication, Preview of U.S. Supreme Court Cases. Professor Raphael has also been elected a public official, serving as a village trustee in Oak Park.
