Elizabeth M. Lozano, Ph.D.

Elizabeth Lozano has taught as an Associate Professor in the department of Communication since 1993. She came to the United States from Colombia in 1987 as a Fulbright scholar. She received her PhD in Philosophy of Communication from Ohio University. Aside from teaching at Loyola, Dr. Lozano has taught at Universidad del Valle and Universidad Autonoma, both in Cali, Colombia.

Dr. Lozano's areas of expertise include media studies and cultural studies. Her classes include Intercultural Communication, Communication Language and Gender, Naturalistic Methods in Communication Research, and Communication Practices. She also teaches Media Theory and Criticism as part of the International Cinema Video and New Media Program, and Global Feminism for the Women's Studies program.

Elizabeth Lozano is currently the academic representative of the Department of Communication for the Academic Council. She is also a member of the steering committees of the International Studies program and the Latin American Studies program, and member of the Women's Studies, and the International Cinema, Video, and New Media Interdisciplinary programs. She also serves as the advisor for Beta Rho, the Loyola chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, National Communication Association.

Dr. Lozano has presented dozens of papers at national and international conferences, and published in Spanish and English journals in the areas of communication and culture. Her current interests include research on women, violence, and the construction of gender identity. Her personal interests include yoga, meditation, and peace studies.
