Anne L. Grauer, Ph.D.

Anne L. Grauer received her Ph.D. in biological anthropology from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Her research interests include paleopathology (the study of ancient human disease) and paleodemography (the study of ancient human mortality, fertility, and migration patterns). In particular, Dr. Grauer's research interests focus on the lives of women and the impact that sex and gender have on morbidity and mortality. She is currently analyzing skeletons from medieval England and cemetery populations from 19th-century urban centers in the United States. Dr. Grauer was recently elected President of the Paleopathology Association, and along with her position in the Department of Anthropology at Loyola University Chicago, serves as an adjunct professor in the Biology Department, as a Research Associate in the Department of Anthropology at the Field Museum of Natural History, and is a consultant for the FBI's Evidence Response Team.
