Elizabeth A. Coffman, Ph.D.

Elizabeth Coffman joined the Department of Communication as Chair in the summer of 2004. An active documentary filmmaker, she helped start the Center for Global Media and Documentary Studies and teaches courses related to cinema history and theory, documentary studies, and video production.

In 2003 she produced, shot, and edited, One More Mile: A Dialogue on Nation Building, which was shown nationally in Bosnia. In the field of cinema studies she has written and published about the history of early avant-garde cinema and contemporary video practice.

Dr. Coffman received her Bachelors degree in English and Political Science from Duke University and her Master's and PhD in English from the University of Florida in Gainsville. Her PhD is concentrated in film studies and she has a passion for world cinema. Before coming to Loyola, Dr. Coffman was the Chair of Communication and an Associate Professor at the University of Tampa.
