Katherine Kaufka Walts, JD, is the Director of the Center for the Human Rights of Children at Loyola University Chicago. Prior to joining Loyola, Ms. Kaufka Walts served as the Executive Director of the International Organization for Adolescents (IOFA). At IOFA she developed several projects in the United States and internationally, advancing the human rights of children and youth, including child exploitation prevention programs, life skills for orphan youth, and advocacy and training programs on behalf of child trafficking victims, including a model program to build capacity of child welfare professionals to respond to child trafficking. Prior to IOFA, Ms. Kaufka Walts also managed the Counter-Trafficking project at the National Immigrant Justice Center, where she led a multi-disciplinary team working with several local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies on single and multiple-victim cases, and represented dozens of victims of human trafficking in the United States. She also served on the Chicago and Milwaukee Human Trafficking Task Forces.

Ms. Kaufka Walts has been recognized as an expert on human trafficking, particularly issues affecting children. She has provided expert testimony to local, national, and international governmental bodies, including the U.S. Senate, Judiciary Subcommittee on Human Rights. She continues to provide technical assistance, training, and consultation to law enforcement, service providers, task forces and coalitions, government agencies, members of U.S. Congress, and media in the U.S. and internationally on the subject of human trafficking. Most recently, she collaborated with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the International Organization of Migration and the U.S. Embassy in Latvia, and the Department of Justice in Kosovo.

She received her JD from the University of Wisconsin, and her BA and BS from the University of Michigan.
