This autumn, rare Italian Renaissance masterpieces are just a private coach ride away. Join Jonathan Canning, LUMAs Senior Curator, on a trip to the Milwaukee Art Museum to see Of Heaven and Earth: 500 Years of Italian Painting from Glasgow Museums. During the day, we will also tour the Pabst Mansion, the home of brewing magnates and the epitome of late 19th-century taste and high living. For lunch, we will dine at the elegant and scenic Harbor House, on the shores of Lake Michigan.

The price of $130* includes round-trip transportation, three-course lunch** (including a non-alcoholic beverage), tours of both museums, and all gratuities. The coach will depart from LUMA at 7:30 a.m. and arrive back by 7:00 p.m. Please arrive at the museum by 7:00 a.m., enjoy warm beverages, and meet your fellow art lovers.

    Pabst Mansion
When Captain Frederick Pabst, Milwaukees famed beer baron, began construction of a new mansion for his family in 1890, he could not have anticipated that it would survive and thrive into the 21st century as a testament to Americas Gilded Age. Designed by George Bowman Ferry and Alfred Charles Clas, construction at 2000 Grand Avenue lasted two years and was completed in July of 1892, at a cost of just over $254,000--including the house, furnishings, and artwork. As leading figures in Milwaukee society, Captain Pabst and his wife, Maria, became consummate art collectors, filling their mansion with priceless treasures. During the years of the Pabst familys ownership, the house was the scene of many fine parties and receptions, a wedding, and, in the end, Captain and Mrs. Pabsts funerals. After the Pabst descendants sold the house in 1908, it became the archbishops residence and the center of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Milwaukee for more than 60 years. When it was sold in 1975, the mansion was nearly torn down to make way for a parking lot. After a three-year crusade for its preservation, it was spared demolition and went on to become an award-winning house museum.

    The Harbor House Restaurant
Located on the shores of Lake Michigan in downtown Milwaukee, Harbor House replicates a New England style seafood restaurant commonly found on Cape Cod and Nantucket. The menu features a wide array of fresh seafood, salads, sandwiches, pastas, steaks, and chops. Additionally, Harbor House features two outdoor patios.

    Milwaukee Art Museum
With works by some of the greatest names in European art, Of Heaven and Earth: 500 Years of Italian Painting from Glasgow Museums will examine the thematic and stylistic developments in Italian art--from the religious paintings of the late Middle Ages and Renaissance to the secular neoclassical and genre paintings of the 19th century. The remarkable regional and historical breadth of the exhibition will also showcase the outstanding quality of Glasgow Museums's collection.
