Title: Big Data Science of Science

Description: For hundreds of years, science has been the primary activity through which societies build knowledge. Yet we understand little about how scientists produce and disseminate research. In a manner similar to what Google, Amazon, and Netflix do, I use machine learning on large dataset of the scientific enterprise to better science itself. In this talk, I will present recent work on predicting scientific success, large scale analysis of scientific figures, and attempts to automatize the scientific review process. Big data science of science promises to be a valuable tool for accelerating scientific discovery, benefiting scientists, publishers, funders, and the public at large.
