The Alternative Break Immersion (ABI) program provides participants local, national and international opportunities to expand learning beyond the classroom in the context of direct service and action. Each ABI involves a combination of service and cultural immersion in a host community along with awareness raising around issues of social concern in those communities.

The experience of participating in the ABI program is framed according to four primary goals and guiding principles¿that we will be living simply, deepening faith, building community and doing justice while sharing work and gaining new awareness from our interactions with diverse communities and one another.

Staff leaders will work in conjunction with a student leader to plan elements of the trip, lead pre-trip meetings and facilitate the trip itself. ABI leaders will attend six formational meetings over the course of the year. Staff leaders are also invited to, but not required to attend the ABI leaders retreat on Sept 26th-27th.
