*Engaged Communication Research for Advocacy and Social Change: Reimagining Urban Space in L.A.'s Diverse Communities*
George Villanueva, Assistant Professor in the School of Communications at Loyola University Chicago, will be presenting.
The talk examines the design and implementation of engaged research projects that aimed to positively re-imagine the historically underinvested areas of South L.A. and communities alongside the L.A. River in Northeast L.A.¿two geographies that are experiencing neighborhood and economic change. Informed by communication theories, the researcher discusses the role that communication scholars and projects can play in planning processes that seek to equitably engage communities in urban development.
CURL Friday Morning Seminars are held on Friday mornings from 10:30am until 12:00pm in Cuneo Hall, 417. Loyola faculty, students, staff, community members, and guests are welcome. These seminars are a time for CURL graduates, undergraduates, staff, and community members to discuss their thoughts and experiences with community-based initiatives and/or relevant research.
