Rebecca Long is the Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Associate Curator of European Painting and Sculpture before 1750 at The Art Institute of Chicago. She is the curator of Doctrine and Devotion: Art of the Religious Orders in the Spanish Andes currently on view at the Art Institute of Chicago. Her talk considers the individuals and institutions behind the creation, sale, and purchase of works of art in the New World, focusing on case studies featuring high-end elite patronage, as well as images created for the popular mass market.
