An informal discussion with Dr. Peter M. Sanchez, Professor of Political Science at Loyola University Chicago, on his 2015 book Priest Under Fire: Padre David Rodríguez, the Catholic Church, and El Salvador's Revolutionary Movement. Sanchez¿s work explores the remarkable life story of a bold Salvadoran priest ¿ Padre David Rodríguez - who in 1970 embraced the Catholic Church¿s call to serve the poor and consequently became an arch enemy of the state and the oligarchy. Along with other progressive clergy committed to liberation theology, Padre David helped drive forward the country's revolutionary movement. Sanchez¿s intricate study gives a nuanced look into the strategies, style, and efforts of all religious leaders in El Salvador during a watershed historical period.
