Prof. Asifa Quraishi-Landes, University of Wisconsin Law School

Sharia and women¿s rights is a hot topic. From feminists to Islamophobes to the average Muslim, it is sure to generate a reaction¿often hostile. To understand some of the history that has caused this¿and what we can do about it ¿Professor Asifa Quraishi-Landes will review how feminism has focused on Muslim women¿tracing this all the way back to colonialism, and then connecting it to contemporary feminist advocacy that addresses shari¿a as a problem. She will contrast this with shari¿a-minded women¿s rights advocacy and offer some suggestions for how we can move past this topic¿and the war over women.
