    Piero Boitani is Professor of Comparative Literature at the Sapienza University of Rome, and teaches at the University of Italian Switzerland and at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He is a Fellow of the British Academy, of the Accademia dei Lincei, and of the Medieval Academy of America. In 2002 he received the Feltrinelli Prize for Literary Criticism, in 2010 the De Sanctis Prize, in 2016 the International Balzan Prize for Comparative Literature. He is the Literary Editor of the Greek and Latin Classics series published by the Fondazione Lorenzo Valla.

    Besides numerous articles and translations of classical writers, Boitani has authored some 25 books, translated in various languages, and edited another ten. Among his works in English are: The Shadow of Ulysses (1994); The Bible and its Rewritings (1999); The Genius to Improve an Invention (2002); Winged Words (2007); Dante's Poetry of the Donati (2007); The Gospel according to Shakespeare (2013). Most recently, he published in Italian: Il grande racconto delle stelle (2012); Dante e il suo futuro (2013); Letteratura e verità (2013); Riconoscere è un dio (2014); Il grande racconto di Ulisse (2016)
