    Loyola University Chicago Libraries and the Newberry Library present the 5th Annual FOCUS ON THE BOOK


    Celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the Birth of Marie Curie


    in collaboration with the Women & Leadership Archives and Council 27 of Polish Women's Alliance of America


    *Marie Sklodowska Curie: Piecing Together the Historical Puzzle* presented by Dr. Helena Pycior


    Dr. Helena Pycior, Professor Emerita of the Department of History at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, will discuss how Marie Sklodowska Curie, renowned scientist and twice Nobel Prize winner, became known as the ''healer of cancer.'' Curie was named an Honorary Member of Polish Women's Alliance in 1921, and the organization helped fund her research.


    Reception with light refreshments and wine bar to follow presentation. Raffle to benefit the PWA Archives Preservation Project.
