*Examining the Diversity of Coercive and Non-Coercive Management Styles Among Pimps in Chicago: Social and Childhood Contributors*

Loretta Stalans, Professor of Criminal Justice and Criminology; Psychology at LUC will be presenting.

*Pimping is the facilitating, enticing, or profiting from sex workers, and is conflated with sex trafficking in the Trafficking Victim Protection Act and in news and advocacy accounts. Based on qualitative interviews of 49 pimps, Dr. Stalans will discuss the five management styles of pimps, and how childhood and social backgrounds are related to the coerciveness of these styles. She will then briefly discuss her future data collection on how sex traffickers groom other sex traffickers, which is supported by the National Institute of Justice.*

CURL Friday Morning Seminars are held regularly on Friday mornings during the academic semester from 10:30am until 12:00pm in Cuneo Hall, 417. Loyola faculty, students, staff, community members, and guests are welcome. These seminars are a time for CURL graduates, undergraduates, staff, and community members to discuss their thoughts and experiences with community-based initiatives and/or relevant research.
