Business and Human Rights: Putting the Focus on Children, with Dr. Jelena Aparac.

Join the Center for the Human Rights of Children and Civitas ChildLaw Center in a discussion with Dr. Jelena Aparac! Dr. Jelena Aparac is the Chairperson-Rapporteur for the United Nations Working Group on the Use of Mercenaries. The thematic mandate of her UN Special Mechanism is to identify and understand the use of private military and security companies in the violation of human rights. In this capacity, Dr. Aparac has developed key documents relating to the use of private security-including the development of a thematic report submitted to the Human Rights Council on the use of private contractors in the detention of migrants. That report was informed by NGO support including the work of the Center for the Human Rights of Children. Dr. Aparac will join us to discuss private actor accountability in the human rights framework with an emphasis on abuses against children in the context of child migration and child labor exploitation.
