*Unusual sleep observations in low-income black South Africans - what can we learn?*
Speaker: Dale Rae, PhD, Senior Researcher at UCT and Director of Sleep Science, UCTDale Rae is a Senior Researcher in the Division of Exercise Science and Sports Medicine within the Department of Human Biology, Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Cape Town (UCT). Her research focuses on sleep and circadian rhythms (i.e. the body¿s 24h clock). She is particularly interested in how sleep is associated with health, disease and obesity, and the relationship between sleep, the body clock, athletic and work-place performance.
Rae is passionate about making her research meaningful for the public. To this end, she is the Director of Sleep Science at UCT, whose vision is ¿a healthy nation through sound sleep¿. Sleep Science enables Rae and her team to put into practice what they learn from research through offering services to the public to help people assess and optimise their sleep, as well as offering various sleep education platforms such as talks, workshops and courses.
