Join the The Center for Textual Studies and Digital Humanities to wish a happy birthday to Frederick Douglass! Douglass Day is an online and international celebration of Frederick Douglass's chosen birthday (Feb 14), run by The Center for Black Digital Research at Penn State (https://douglassday.org/). The day celebrates Douglass and Black history by gathering communities to transcribe the papers of Mary Ann Shadd Cary, an activist and writer who was one of the earliest Black women to found and edit a newspaper.

We'll convene in person at IC 4th floor from 11:30-12:45 CT for opening remarks and an overview of the project from The Center for Black Digital Research. Then we'll be shown how to transcribe in Zooniverse.org, and spend some time contributing to the crowdsourced transcription project.

Birthday cake will be served. If you'd like to bring your class, please ask everyone to register separately, or email ehopwood@luc.edu so we have an adequate headcount.
