    Title: *Imaging Latin America: The Kodachrome Slide Project of Florence Arquin*

    Synopsis: Florence Arquin gained renown for her 1940s color photographs of Frida Kahlo in Mexico City. She led the Kodachrome Slide Project, a U.S. program aimed at enhancing young audiences' understanding of Latin America. Likely the first woman artist to employ this medium in Mexico, she captured over 2,000 slides of everyday life and leading artists in mid-century Mexico City. This presentation delves into the significance of Arquin¿s images in the study of Latin American art today.

    Speaker Bio: Alivé Piliado is a Mexican art historian and curator professional with experience working in public art museums in Mexico and the United States. She is currently research associate in the department of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Art Institute of Chicago, where she has supported a variety of curatorial projects. Before joining the Art Institute, Alivé served in curatorial positions in Mexico at the Museo Nacional de Arte and the Museo Nacional de San Carlos, both in Mexico City.
