Universal Instructional Design (UID) is a model for equitable access, social justice, and sustainability. It provides an opportunity to create a welcoming learning environment for individuals with different backgrounds, learning styles, abilities and disabilities. Seeing life through her eyes, Dr. Karen Myers shares ideas for a UID-friendly environment and a sustainable future.

Karen A. Myers, PhD, is Associate Professor and Director of the Higher Education Administration graduate program at Saint Louis University and Director of The Ability Institute, home of the award-winning international disability education project, Allies for Inclusion: The Ability Exhibit and the Ability Ally Initiative. She teaches her self-designed Disability in Higher Education and Society course, has facilitated national webinars on disability, and served on several disability-related non-profit organization boards. Dr. Meyers was the recipient of the ACPA College Student Educators International Voice of Inclusion Medallion, Annuit Coeptis Senior Professional Award, Richard Caple Award for Research and Scholarship, ACPA Foundation Diamond Honoree, Disability Leadership Award, and Wise Woman Award. She is a writer, researcher, consultant and trainer in disability education and is the author of three books related to disability.
