Title: Effective Duplicity: Using Pitch Tunneling to Explain Contact Quality
Abstract: We were given a data set, provided by baseball prospectus, about pitch tunneling and sequencing. Pitch tunneling is the pitchers ability to disguise pitch types by having the same path of travel until diverging after the tunnel point. The tunnel point is a location deemed to be the closest point a pitch gets to the base that the batter must decide if he wants to swing. Based on the data we created our own baseball statistic that we call Effective Duplicity.
Mark your calendars: Whether or not you can make Thursday's event, get pumped(!!) for Friday, March 31st, when DataFest returns to Loyola. (more details/register)
