    At *Into the Deepest Dark: Hell and its Torments in the Medieval Tradition,* Dr. Scott G. Bruce, Professor of History at Fordham University, will discuss the long arc of the history of the punitive afterlife from late antiquity to the early modern period, with a coda on modern America. Dr. Bruce is the author of a new Penguin Classics anthology, The Penguin Book of Hell.
