To understand the present, we must understand the past. Over the course of the year, seven internationally-known speakers from various disciplines will present their research on aspects of medieval environmental issues and how they illuminate the present. Dr. Vicki Szabo, Associate Professor, Western Carolina University, will present on *Whale Watching in the Medieval North Atlantic: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Marine Mammal Use and Populations in Premodern Europe*. Dr. Szabo is an expert on the medieval North Atlantic, marine mammal exploitation, and environmental history.
