    For three days, beginning September 18, 2023, Loyola University Chicago School of Law will host this fall's Cooney & Conway Judge-in-Residence, Mr. Justice Gerard Hogan of the Supreme Court of Ireland.

    Justice Hogan has been a professor at Trinity College Dublin where he taught constitutional law, competition law, and the law of tort. He also previously served as a Judge of the High Court in Dublin, as a Justice of the Appellate Court of Ireland, and as Advocate General of the European Court of Justice. He is co-author of the leading Irish texts on Administrative Law and on Constitutional Law. Prior to his initial judicial appointment, he was an active member of the Supreme Court bar and was frequently called upon to represent the Government of Ireland before the Supreme Court. He is reputed to be the first Irish barrister to have appeared in court without a wig.

    Justice Hogan will give three lectures while he is at Loyola:

    ¿        Tuesday, September 19 at 5:00 p.m. in Room 1303
    ¿        Wednesday, September 20 at 12:00 p.m. in Room 1401

    Justice Hogan is the fourth Cooney & Conway Judge-in-Residence. Prior holders of this position have been Prof. Dr. Hab. Andrzej Rzeplinki, the former President of the Constitutional Court of Poland, who has been a fearless voice against authoritarianism and democratic erosion in Central and Eastern Europe, Judge Carlton W. Reeves, United States District Judge for the Southern District of Mississippi, and Judge Mary G. Rowland, United States District Judge for the Northern District of Illinois.
